Our objective for the project was to guide Wirewax through the product and development cycle for Version 5 of Studio, their interactive video production and storage web-app.
We were tasked with leading the user experience and visual design of the new product, from early stage ideation and brand & style development, through to product launch and support. We worked hand in glove with the client team, and reported directly to the CEO and CTO.

This project involved myself and my colleague Jack from Fable & Faber, who were tasked with leading the UX and creative streams respectively. Fable & Faber was co-founded by myself and Jack in 2017.
I was the project UX lead. I worked alongside the CEO, CTO and tech team to execute business requirements, run research and strategy tasks, and to bring the voice of the user through all feature designs.

This was one of our first major clients for our newly formed agency, and with it came a multitude of learnings.
It took time to understand how best to embed ourselves as their internal design team, and how best to liase with their wider team to turn around designs and updates at pace.
Approach.
Early stage work involved us getting to understand WIREWAX’s core issues to solve, how best to integrate ourselves into their team, and helping to define MVP features for an initial build of the new product.
The key initial tasks conducted were:
Review and analysis of competitor landscape, to confirm feature requirements and opportunity areas
Run qualitative interviews and card sorting with key users to undertand the needs of the target audience
Create user journeys, to map out business requirements alongside customer needs
Prototype of initial features into lo-fi wireframes, to aid in MVP feature prioritisation
Run design principles workshop, to get an understanding of their needs for the brand and visual styling and tone of voice
Once the MVP build was completed, we tested this with current users to uncover problem areas which required further consideration. I ran one-on-one user-testing interviews with existing users, to uncover which areas needed further analysis.
Suggested changes uncovered in these testing sessions helped shape new feature updates, and assisted with prioritisation of new features alongside an existing backlog.
We worked as their internal design team, alongside engineering and product teams to deliver design iterations and updates to product behaviour.
Outcomes.
We assisted WIREWAX for nine months to successfully launch version 5 of Studio, within time and budget constraints. We defined a brand new look and feel for the platform from ideation through to inception.
WIREWAX’s product continued to grow and improve over the years and they have since been acquired by Vimeo.
